  Let's talk about what is 3.5 mm, Audio Jack.

       If we want to talk about the future we should know about the past of 3.5 mm audio jack which was in commercial use from 1878 there was an only Quarter inch jack used which was (6.35 mm). Which was used by telephone operators at that time because no convenience was that time and later 3.5 mm Jack become popular? When I am saying 3.5 mm means that it is the diameter of the connector.

  * How 3.5 mm Audio Jack come into existence and how it become so popular. *

         The word 3.5 mm jack is so popular till now and till the best and it comes into existence from 1878 it was used by the telephone operator and like now telephone is so convenience at that time it was not. The Quarter inch (6.35 mm) Audio Jack is still used in professional equipment like electric guitars, loudspeakers, microphones.

         The 3.5 mm was used for consumer electronics, but 6.35 mm is used for professional equipment because it provides a large surface area and more reliable.

          The time when 3.5 mm come to recognize was in 1979 when SONY introduced its Walkman which was a cassette player and 3.5 mm audio jack on it and becomes popular soon and people like it because they don't have to carry large connectors instead of that they have to carry small and cute one.

         Then many companies like Motorola, Sony Ericson used their prosperity connectors in their phone but many people  didn't like it because they have to carry two connectors instead of one but it  doesn't get well and the companies switch to 3.5 mm audio jack and the main problem was that the shape of propriety connectors was different and difficult to build so they switch to single connectors.

        Then the time comes when Apple announced I-pod and I-phone with 3.5 mm audio jack become so popular and every smartphone maker then implemented it and a huge boom to 3.5 mm audio jack.

         Then the sad time comes when Apple takes a bold move by removing 3.5 mm audio jack from their iPhone 7 and Apple was teased a lot by other companies like Google, Samsung, OnePlus. But now they are doing the same.

           In recent times 3.5 mm audio jack has been removed from the flagship smartphones as Apple has already ditched it from the lineup and same step OnePlus and Samsung has taken in it's lineup.

        The main reason for the removal of 3.5 mm audio jack is that they can't make the phone slimmer than now because of it. Another reason is to increase the sale of wireless or   Bluetooth earphones/headphones. 

      The future of 3.5 mm audio jack is not more because every smartphone maker is removing 3 5 mm audio jack from phones slowly and it will be USB Type C or wireless or Bluetooth one.
